Sterling Ball on MusicMan Basses

In the fall of 1984 Ernie Ball purchased MusicMan. Its solid reputation for professional electric basses and amplifiers was well known. Leo Fender made the instruments and Tom Walker built the amps. One of those involved in the design of MusicMan's most successful instrument, the StingRay bass, was a young Sterling Ball.

When introduced in 1976 the StingRay bass immediately became a universal favorite of bassists worldwide. The StingRay was the first production bass to feature active electronics and the trademarked 3+1 tuning key headstock configuration.
