Guitar Center’s Drum-Off Champion Jerome Flood II to Perform Live on Last Call With Carson Daly!

On Wednesday, January 14th Guitar Center’s Drum-Off ’08 champion Jerome Flood II will make his television debut with a performance on Last Call With Carson Daly. This past Saturday the 22-year-old resident of Atlanta was crowned winner of Guitar Center’s Drum-Off ’08, the world’s largest drum competition. Flood and the five other finalists were judged by a panel of today’s most prominent and acclaimed drummers including Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Kenny Aronoff, The Rev (Avenged Sevenfold), Danny Carey (Tool), and Trevor Lawrence Jr. (Snoop Dogg), Drew Hester (Foo Fighters/Joe Walsh), Atom Willard (Angels & Airwaves), Alan White (Yes),Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta) and Frank Zummo (Street Drum Corps).


After battling through a total of five rounds of competition over the course of four months, Flood triumphed over nearly 5,000 contestants to become America’s next top undiscovered drummer. For his winning performance he takes home $45,000 in cash and prizes and joins the illustrious group of Guitar Center Drum-Off winners that includes past title-holders Cora "CC" Dunham (Prince; Drum-Off ’02 Champ), Eric Moore (Bobby Brown, Sly and The Family Stone, Suicidal Tendencies; Drum-Off ’03 Champ), Tony Royster Jr. (Jay Z; Drum-Off ’95 Champ) and Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta).


"The world is going to know about me thanks to this," said Flood. "I’m really thankful to Guitar Center for this opportunity, because it’s really changed my life."

Jerome Flood II Crowned America’s Top Undiscovered Drummer in the World’s Largest Drum Competition.


On Saturday January 10th, in front of a star-studded capacity crowd at the historic Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles, one aspiring drummer’s dreams came true, as Guitar Center crowned Jerome Flood II the winner of Guitar Center’s 20th Annual Guitar Center Drum-Off championships. Sharing the stage with such drumming greats and artists such as Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall), Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta), Thomas Lang and Papa Roach, the winner was chosen by a panel of today’s most iconic and influential drummers, including Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Kenny Aronoff, The Rev (Avenged Sevenfold), Danny Carey (Tool), and Trevor Lawrence Jr. (Snoop Dogg/ Dr. Dre), Drew Hester (Foo Fighters/Joe Walsh), Atom Willard (Angels & Airwaves), Alan White (Yes), and Frank Zummo (Street Drum Corps). Attendees also included, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Cora Coleman-Dunham (Prince; Drum-Off ’02 Champ), John Tempesta (The Cult), Ray Luzier (Korn), Shannon Leto (30 Seconds to Mars), Jason Sutter (Chris Cornell), Eric Moore (Bobby Brown, Sly and The Family Stone, Suicidal Tendencies; Drum-Off ’03 Champ) and Dale Stewart (Seether).

The evening’s competition was the culmination of months of local and regional competitions held at each of Guitar Center’s 214 stores across the country - competitions that resulted in selecting the top six undiscovered drummers in the nation from nearly 5,000 competitors. As Guitar Center’s Drum-Off champion, Jerome Flood II takes home $25,000 cash plus another $20,000 in gear, including a Roland TD-20 kit, a custom designed drum kit by DW, Pearl, Gretsch, Tama, or Orange Country Drums as well as a drum, stick, cymbal, and drum head endorsement deals. He will also be featured in Modern Drummer magazine, a Guitar Center ad campaign, and make a VIP appearance @ NAMM 2009, and will be given additional clothing and gear from Levi’s, Converse and Guitar Center.

Originally from Rochester, NY and now hailing from Atlanta, GA 22-year-old Jerome Flood II received his first drum kit when he was just 2 years old. This is the 5th year Flood entered Guitar Center’s Drum-Off, and the win, he says "came at the perfect time. The world is going to know about me thanks to this," he said, exhausted but ecstatic. "I’ve still got a long way to go career-wise, but I’m ready, and I’m really thankful to Guitar Center for this opportunity, because it’s really changed my life." Flood already has an audition scheduled for Monday with a nationally known band.

The evening, which was hosted by Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), also featured an awards ceremony honoring the legendary drumming icon Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience) along with living legends Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) and Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Ted Nugent, Rod Stewart) who were inducted into Guitar Center’s "Drum-Legends" Hall of Fame. Started three years ago, "Drum Legends" was created to acknowledge the contributions of many of today’s most legendary and iconic drummers. Guitar Center has dedicated a special section in their flagship San Francisco location to "Drum Legends", featuring past inductees including Steve Smith, David Garibaldi, Alan White, Greg Errico and others.

For 20 years Guitar Center’s annual Drum-Off has been recognized by the music community as one of the most important platforms for unsigned talent, and a springboard to stardom for many seriously talented young drummers. After months of local and regional competitions held at each of Guitar Center’s 214 stores across the country, the top six undiscovered drummers in the nation have been selected from a field of nearly 5,000 competitors. The six finalists will go head to head on Saturday, January 10th, 2009 at Guitar Center’s Drum-Off Grand finals in Los Angeles for a prize package worth over $45,000, as they perform in front of a capacity crowd at the historic Music Box at Fonda Theater. The show will also feature performances from drumming greats Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall), an exclusive collaboration by Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta) and Thomas Lang and a headlining performance by Papa Roach. The evening will be hosted by Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction).

Drum-Off Regional Finals Tonight!

This eve (Tuesday, December 2nd) marks this year’s Drum-Off Regional Finals. We are very excited for these events and invite you all to come out and experience first hand some incredible drumming by a slew of undiscovered talent. Over the past several weeks nearly 5,000 drummers have battled it out at Drum-Off preliminary competitions at 214 Guitar Center stores from across the country. We are now down to the top 24 drummers competing for the chance to move one step closer to being crowned Guitar Center Drum-Off Grand Champion.


Regional Finals will be held at the Hollywood, Seattle, Central Chicago, Clearlake, Hallandale, and Brooklyn GC locations. Each location promises to be a special event with top drummers and former champions judging and or performing. Roland will be on hand at the Seattle and Hollywood locations to provide a special V-Drum Showcase and Monster Energy will be providing tasty beverages at all spots. Don’t miss it! This year’s finale will take place on Saturday, January 10th in Hollywood, California at the Historic Music Box @ Henry Fonda Theatre. The night will be hosted by Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction and will feature live performances from some of today’s top drummers, including a special collaborative performance by Thomas Lang and Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta), Jason Bittner & friends (Shadows Fall), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), a headlining performance by Papa Roach, and the top 6 undiscovered drummers in the nation battling it out for the title of Guitar Center 2008 Drum-Off Champion.

Drum-Off Store Finals Tonight, District Finals November 11th!

Tonight in all 214 Guitar Center stores across the country, store finalists will be competeing for the chance to move on to the district finals on Tuesday November 11th. We started off with over 4,000 drummers and after tonight there will be 214 left to compete for the chance of becoming Guitar Center’s Drum-Off Champion! Store finals will begin 2 hours before store closing (6 or 7pm based on location), see stores for details. The further we move along in the competition the better the talent. Stop by tonight and get a taste of your local drum scene and cheer on the best in show!


*Please note, due to the elections on November 4th, district finals have been moved to November 11th. Rock the vote!

Drum-Off store competitions have officially begun!

Tonight marks the the first week of competitions for this year’s 20th Anniversary of Drum-Off! Come see the top undiscovered drummers in the country compete for the title of Guitar Center Drum-Off ‘08 Champion! Your local Guitar Center store will be hosting the next 3 rounds of store preliminaries every Tuesday night for the next 3 weeks. Store Preliminary dates are September 23rd, September 30th, October 7th and store finals on October 14th. Whether you are a drum enthusiast, in a band looking for a new drummer, a music fan, or interested in getting a taste of your local music scene this is something you don’t want to miss. Competitions start 2 hours before store closing (6 or 7pm depending on location). See stores for details or check back here. Hope to see you there!

This year's line up of drummers to play tribute to the late, legendary Buddy Rich includes Terry Bozzio, Chad Smith, Neil Peart, and many more!
