Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of an all-time classic – The 1957 Gold Custom By Gibson
The Les Paul Custom is one of Gibson’s most treasured and collectible instruments. Introduced in 1954, the Custom was set apart from other Les Pauls by its multi-ply binding, mahogany top and back, mother-of-pearl block inlays and ebony fingerboard with low-profile fret wire that inspired the nickname 'Fretless Wonder.’ In 1957, Gibson produced the first Customs to feature their newly unveiled P.A.F humbuckers , the creation of Gibson engineer Seth Lover. The combination of the Custom’s mahogany top and body with the warm, thick tone of the P.A.Fs created an iconic sound that has remained a cornerstone of electric guitar tone for fifty years. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of these groundbreaking Les Pauls, the legendary Gibson Custom Shop has produced a limited run of Gold Les Paul Customs. These masterpieces feature historically correct solid mahogany tops and backs, and are finished in a rich shimmering Antique Gold nitrocellulose lacquer. A spectacular goldplated headstock crowns this historic instrument. The sound is vintage, the look spectacular, and the production, limited. In fact, only 157 guitars are to be made worldwide.
